"A few final words about the future development work at Sigtuna Golf Club.
I can provide you with the recipe for ensuring that the majority of players enjoy and thrive on your course. I know what attracts new members, how to retain your current members, and how to generate more green fee revenue and attract more sponsors.
My checklist when thoroughly inspecting a course includes, among other things:
- Safety?
- Nature experience?
- Colors and contrasts in the landscape?
- Course layout/routing?
- Do players get a clear direction from the tees?
- Strategic hole design?
- Visual impressions of the holes?
- Is it playable for all skill levels?
- Mowing, mowing techniques, and mowing heights?
- Quality and condition of playing surfaces, as well as cleanliness?
- Richness of nuances and details?
- Environmental aspects?
- Drainage?
- Irrigation?
- Time traps? (Both in terms of play and maintenance)
There are more factors on my checklist. Truly 'taking the pulse' of a course or facility as a whole requires external expertise. Home blindness and personal preferences hinder the development of many clubs and their potential to be attractive to a wider audience.
I often receive assignments because golf committees or boards cannot agree or find consensus on what needs to be done. I ensure that everyone wants the same thing and understands why."
